Swoboda
[ SWOBODA とは … ]
1956年ロサンゼルスにて設立したコスチュームジュエリー・ブランド。
スワボダのジュエリーは自然をモチーフとし、ヒスイやアメジスト、
ガーネットなどの半貴石を使用し1点1点手作業で作られているため
その上質なジュエリーは評判となり、NYをはじめとする有名百貨店や
ロンドンでも販売され、多くのハリウッドスター・女優に愛用された。
1966年以前は紙タグが使用されており、ジュエリーに刻印はなかった。
創立者エドワードスワボダは1979年に引退。スワボダのチーフデザイナー
であったネイトワックスマン氏は、今もジュエリーを制作・販売している。
Swoboda, Inc. was founded in Los Angeles in 1956 by mineral dealer Edward Swoboda, who began hand-setting polished tourmaline and beryl into unique costume jewelry after receiving a shipment of lower-quality stones. To meet growing demand, he developed an electric rock tumbling system that allowed him to produce larger quantities of colorful, polished semi-precious stones — an innovation that also sparked the popular home rock tumbling hobby of the late 1950s and 60s.
As the business expanded, Swoboda incorporated a wide variety of stones including quartz, agate, and jade into his designs, selling through his own stores in Los Angeles, Dallas, and New York as well as major department stores nationwide. Partner Nate Waxman joined in 1957 and played a key role in design and sales until 1978. Swoboda retired in 1979, with production continuing through 1985.
